"There must be something in books, things we can't imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don't stay for nothing." - Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451, Part 1
February: I read Shanghai Girls by Lisa See. It's a historical fiction novel about Chinese immigration. I love the story and the characters. There was something that happened in the beginning that was hard for me to get past emotionally. But it was totally worth it. I love Lisa See's writing and have read all her books. It is a great book that looks at Chinese culture from the inside.
ReplyDeleteMarch: I read Eat, Love, Pray by Elizabeth Gilbert. It was an interesting book. It is separated into 3 sections. In the first two sections it starts out interesting then kind of falls flat. The last section is great all the way through and could be a book on its own without the other two parts. I'm not sure I would read something else by her but this one is great about explaining culture and religion.
I read three novels for this challenge in February and March: The Iliad, The Little Prince and Jane Eyre.
ReplyDeleteOops--I forgot to change the title on my link--it s/b Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein.
